Installing a crane hoist in a newly constructed structure is very different from installing a crane in an existing structure. While, in the case of the former, installation is relatively easy as the design of structure can be modified according to the needs of the crane, in the case of the latter, the installation comes with a number of challenges and technicalities.

One of the biggest challenges is to allow the production to continue in the existing facility and to make arrangements that can facilitate installation of crane in the structure. Movement of employees, raw materials and finished products, along with the running of machinery comes as a big obstacle in getting the installation equipment and materials into the building.

A big challenge in the process is to minimize disruption in the production process, while at the same time manage the creation of a structure that will support the crane hoist and trolley with full load as required. 

There are several factors that affect the timeline and success of crane installation in an existing structure, and these include. 

Production:

One of the biggest challenges that you face while installing a crane hoist in an existing facility is production. No industry wants to halt or suspend its production to install a crane. Instead, it wants a clear and definite time schedule for completion of the installation process.

The crane installer needs to find ways and time when crane equipment and materials can be brought in the facility. He needs to devise innovative methods in which he can work with all the manufacturing work going on, and find time when trucks with material can enter the facility without hampering the production of the customer.

Access to building and installation site:

Before starting the installation of a crane hoist, most installers make a visit to the building and installation site to take a view and understand the building structure and the site, where the overhead crane needs to be installed.

The visit allows them to review the building and plan their work according to their customer. The visit also ensures whether production needs to be stopped, postponed or timing altered to adjust both jobs.

Installation schedule

Working in an existing manufacturing facility comes with an almost fixed schedule of installation of the overhead crane as it is very difficult for any manufacturer to disturb his manufacturing work for a long time. After a thorough assessment of the building and the site is made, the installer gives you an almost accurate time frame in which he will install the crane hoist and trolley after consulting his team about the equipment required to be sourced, ways to go about the work, and structural additions and modifications required to be made to facilitate installation of the crane.
